Meet Hiru
Hiru is Island Surf School's ISA-certified head instructor, with over 14 years spent in the water at Weligama Bay. His teaching style is patient, encouraging, and highly effective, and students consistently stand up on their very first lesson.
The school sits steps from the sand near Taprobane Island, a private island set in the turquoise waters of Weligama Bay and one of the most beautiful spots in the world to learn to surf.

Absolutely incredible experience. Our instructor was patient, encouraging, and had us standing on boards within the first hour. The waves at Weligama are perfect for beginners — warm water, gentle breaks, and stunning scenery. Best thing we did in Sri Lanka.
